The Shark Steam. I love it.
I know, right? A steam cleaner? Seriously?
But – bear with me.
Because I love this little purple baby.
I really do.
And I’m no clean freak.
In fact, I try very hard to do as little housework as I possibly can. Sadly, with four children, a giant puppy-dog, and living in deepest darkest mud-filled rural Dorset, a certain amount is necessary. Particularly on the floors.
I have hardwood flooring and tiles throughout most of my ground floor, which makes sweeping a breeze. But of course a quick sweep doesn’t remove the actual remnants of the children who will keep eating (spilling). And drinking (spilling). And the dog who keeps going out (& trekking mud in).
So I started using The Shark (as he’s affectionately called) out of a sense of Reviewers Duty. Plugged it in, laid it flat, filled the tank, and hey presto! It was good to go.
It’s not a quick whizz, like the hoover, you have to take your time. Oh, and you soon learn that you don’t ‘scrub’ at stuck-on bits like with a normal mop – just let the steam do the work for you. But man it gets the floors clean. No detergants, no fake-lemon-fresh smell, no rinsing or bubbles, no slippy wetness… just… clean. Really clean.
When the dog had to have x-rays recently (she’s a rottweiler, 9mths old, bad limp and dodgy leg, but not joints, she’s fine now, thanks for asking), she was very unwell as she recovered from the anaesthetic. Unwell from both ends, if you follow me. Suddenly, just like THAT I was in love with my Shark Steam Pocket mop. She’d leak from an orifice, I’d simply steam it up. No stain, no smell, and no dodgy bacteria left.
It’s not just for hard floors though – oh no. A few weeks later one of the boys had a stomach bug. He tried to make it to the toilet, he really did. But it was just a few steps too far, so the hall and stairs got the contents of his stomach instead. *sigh*. Out trotted the The Shark… Again – no stain, no smell, and no dodgy bacteria left.
It’s love, I tell you.
It hangs almost flat (I keep mine on a hook under the stairs), is simplicity to use, the steam from the pump-action handle is powerful and effective, the head rotates to make cleaning any awkward nook a breeze, and the tank lasts for ages. And when the microfibre head gets dirty? Just bung it in the washing machine.
No busy home should be without one, to be honest.Sadly JML no longer offer the Shark, but they do have other fab steam mops et al on their website, see here.
