IL MAKIAGE Review – I WOKE UP LIKE THIS (not)

Everyone – I COME BEARING BEAUTY SECRETS!!! Okay, it’s an Il Makiage review… but I voluntarily bought it with my own money. And you’ll be pleased to know I’ve had such an aesthetically pleasing breakthrough that I’m going to share it with you all!

I always promote natural beauty and loving yourself just how you are… However, I think it’s safe to say you’d have to be a pretty rare breed of human to wake up each day and think
“Corr, yeah. I am a 10 out of 10.”
I know I certainly don’t.

Anyway, one particularly boring day at work, I was aimlessly scrolling through Instagram and got sucked into the deep dark depths of the app (as you do) when I stumbled across thousands of women with beautiful skin. These women weren’t the typical flawless, airbrushed and edited models you see on a lot of beauty pages, pore-less and not a bit of peach fuzz in sight (we all have it!). Instead these were real-looking women! I thought… “Well, if they can make old Dorothy here look like she’s slept a full 8 hours every night for the entirety of her life and has been a health-conscious vegan since she was 4, I feel like this could make my tired and neglected face look a little less… tired and neglected.”
So, I swiped up and started shopping – time for an Il Makiage review.

IL MAKIAGE Review

Getting to Actually Buy It – The Quiz!

No Il Makiage Review would be complete without mentioning The Quiz. My expectations weren’t high once it was confirmed that they were essentially guessing my shade using a few automated questions (and there’s 50 colours to choose from), but regardless of my apprehension I took the quiz.
I was asked what texture and finish I liked, what kind of skin I have (combination, oily etc), what did I use now, what colour did my veins show, how old was I blah blah blah…
The process was quite fun to be honest, and a little different from my usual quizzes; such as “what type of bread would I be” or “which Harry Potter house am I in”. Then they emailed me across my results (I’m an ‘I woke up like this #030’, just in case anyone was curious). They were (AND STILL ARE) offering a 14-day free trial. If you choose to keep the foundation after 14 days, only then will they charge you for it. Having used a majority of the well-known brands all varying in price from collection 2000 to Dior, I thought well why not. I can send it back if I don’t like it can’t I!? Here’s the annoying part… It’s SO good I couldn’t not keep it. My bank balance told me no but my skin and confidence screamed “Yes!” at me.

Il Makiage ‘Woke Up Like This’ Flawless Base Foundation

Il Makiage foundation is so build-able, it blends seamlessly and you can sure as heck rely on it to cover up the “I drank a bottle of red to myself last night” bags! Kids kept you up last night? Il Makiage. Fights with your boyfriend got you looking like Mr Blobby and Jocelyn Wildenstein’s lovechild (If you don’t know her, Google her… trust me.)? Il Makiage.

In my opinion (and this is my Il Makiage review, so frankly my opinion is all you’re getting), there really is very little that this liquid sent down from the heavens can’t mask or improve. For anyone who is worried about looking cakey or like you’re wearing a lot of makeup, this is one of the things I was so impressed with when using this foundation.

Even if your skin is pitted, scarred or you currently suffer with acne or spots, I found that the lightweight and buff-able texture of the Il Makiage foundation works with you and your skin regardless of the state it’s in.

Its formula is enriched with hyaluronic acid to keep your skin looking plump and hydrated whilst hiding the evidence of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s also packed full of vitamin E for moisture retention so no need to worry about cracking or flaking throughout the day. It claimed to be a long wearing foundation too which I am always skeptical about but was so pleasantly surprised by the longevity of its wear! The moisturising and hydrating formula for this foundation means it has anti-aging benefits keeping your skin fresh and protected for longer.

The biggest bonus of using Il Makiage for me (because I really am a lazy so-and-so) is that I did all of this from the comfort of my uncomfortable desk chair when I probably should’ve been working… whoops. Although I love going to the shops and having the sales assistants test out a load of shite on my face, I do often come out £80 worse off and rocking a tide-line of crap across my cheeks and jaw bone.

Il Makiage Review - not the way I look, honest
Me coming out of Debenhams wondering why I spent money I don’t have to waste
on make-up that still doesn’t make me look like an Instagram influencer.
(okay, actually taken from Amy Schumer’s Girl you Don’t Need Make Up video)

Il Makiage review – Do I Recommend it? I genuinely think that everyone should give this brand a go. With the 14-day free trial what have you got to lose?! The packaging is classy too for those of you that keep your perfumes in their boxes and things (weirdos). Its monochrome theme is really striking and the shredded tissue paper inside the first box just adds to the experience.

review of Il Makiage's 'I woke up like this' foundation
Swanky! Ooo-er
  • Price? £££ – Total $56 including postage – about £45.
  • Finish & Formula? Natural and smooth looking with a creamy and lightweight texture.
  • Recommend? 9/10 – Would be a 10 but was a little more than I wanted to spend.
  • Any comments? I love that this brand will help you choose your foundation based on questions you’ve answered all at your ease and pace! I also had a query about payments and although the company is based in the USA, someone from their customer service team got back to me within 4 hours! So impressed!
  • Something to note: This product is imported from America so can take up to 10 working days to arrive.

Il Makiage the brand and ‘Woke Up Like This’ the foundation are absolute winners for me. I have encouraged my friends and family to invest in Il Makiage and I will continue to do so after mine has run out as I believe it is well worth the money. It’s ideal for busy Mums or shopping dodgers and is completely cruelty free just as an added bonus! I will 100% be trying out some of their other products and look forward to informing you on how I got on with those too!

A 70's child, I’ve been married for a Very Long Time, and appear to have made four children, and collected one large and useless dog along the way. I work, I have four children, I have a dog… ergo, I do not do dusting or ironing. I began LittleStuff back in (gulp) 2004. I like huge mugs of tea. And Coffee. And Cake. And a steaming cone of crispy fresh fluffy chips, smothered in salt and vinegar. #healthyeater When I grow up I am going to be quietly graceful, organised and wear lipstick every day. In the meantime I *may* have a slight butterfly-brain issue.

  3. I’m struggling to get a reply from this company. What I want to know is, if ordering from the UK is it posted from the UK or from the USA? I dont want to be paying an extra £12 handling fee to the Royal Mail!

  5. Today is my first day wearing the woke up like this foundation. It does not cover my rosacea spots, so I’m not sure how it covers everyone’s acne so well. I think the people promoting the make up must be paid actresses, or they edit the video of the after with make up on. My pores look worse than when I wear cheap Loreal Pro Matte.. Also, I’m only two hours into work, and it’s wearing off. What the heck, there is no way I’m going to keep this stuff, so expensive. Why would I keep this stuff when I get better looking skin from cheaper make up. Pro Matte lasts 1/2 a day at least, I can blot my face and only touch up once. This Il Makiage is already wearing off without me blotting. I’m sad, I was hoping it would be great, but it’s not.

    • I agree with you. so disappointed with it and so expensive which I wouldn’t mind so much if it worked. going to be sending it back!

    • Me too. I’m trying a primer to see if that helps bc it initially does look great. Rosacea covered with more application or some concealer

  7. There is no information in the quiz regarding rosacea. I have a pinkish reddish coloring to my nose chin and cheeks with rosacea spots as well. I took the quiz and got a match. But the lack of skin questions regarding Rosacea made me not try the trial. I use Rx prescription cream twice a day which is applied before my make up in the morning. I am not sure this will mix well. Nor does the make up line mention anything regarding sensitive skin or if it is dermatologist approved.
