'Noah's Ark' by Rod Campbell - What WE Say...

This is so much more than a book – you really do get an ark! Open out the ark carry case (it holds together with a sturdy Velcro dot) and you discover the book, a wall frieze of the animals and hidden away inside a handy plastic wallet is – joy of joys – a complete set of fold-out cardboard 3D animals!

In our house I’m afraid the book is rather redundant; the story is too old for a toddler, and we make up a simple version to go along with the images (typical Nick Sharrat fun cartoons) about all the animals who go and share a boat while it rains outside. Ella hasn’t yet asked for this book to be read to her – but she does sit and look at it occasionally, spotting and naming the animals. However - the animals come out over and over and over.

The wall frieze never made it to the wall – it is to be laid out carefully for the animals to be placed upon. The clever cardboard animals – in their perfect pairs, of course – stand up easily for her, and have remained sturdily intact despite frequent 2 year old play sessions. We do have a set of zoo animals for her to play with, but she is drawn to these little cardboard versions over and over again.
