The first thing I liked about my Bebe au Lait nursing cover was the fabric, I had the Yoko design and I liked it. A lot.

When it comes to breastfeeding, I am a total novice so having a Bebe au Lait was ideal. It meant I could fuss about in public without exposing my boob or my belly. The first time I used it was at my parents house, thought I'd feed in front of them, just for the reaction. My dad - who gets embarrassed very easily at such things - said to me, after a few minutes of feeding. Why are you hiding her under there? Then it dawned on him I was feeding her, and he was very impressed. After I was done, I had to explain to him how everything worked .... from the discreet little pouch for your breast pads, muslin or whatever to the structured top so you can keep an eye on your little one and maintain eye contact.

Okay, passed the test at their house. Now for the public breastfeeding. I did it in the middle of roadside cafe (yep - a full on truckers cafe!) and I don't think anyone noticed at all. Or at least they didn't stare. Mission accomplished. Easily. I felt confident, and I think that's the key to feeding.

My initial thought was that although I personally loved the fabric pattern, suddenly draping yourself in something so bold may draw more attention than you were trying to avoid if you breastfed without it. However, I came to realise very quickly that the best thing about the Bebe au Lait was that it kept my daughter focused. She is nosy. Very nosey (I don't know where she get's it from...) so normally, every feed gets interrupted half a dozen times as she breaks off to have a look at whatever has distracted her, but when using the Bebe au Lait nursing cover she stayed totally focused which was brilliant.
