Interactive & Inspiring Fun from IKEA
The good people at IKEA have been rather busy with new fangled technology and social media stuff. Have you seen their new Facebook page and iPhone app? See, it all started with a research report called the Playreport – apparently it’s the world’s largest study of play and kid’s development. It found that 89% of parents agree that play is important to encourage their child’s imagination.
So, to inspire and promote creatvity and fun IKEA have launched a Facebook application called ‘Toy Stories‘ and it let’s kids (and grown-ups!) make their own digital story book using some of characters from IKEA’s soft toy range.
They have also launched a new free iPhone application called LEKAR which is actually rather good! My 4 year old and I gave it a go. The idea is, you shake the phone (and all the cute little little critters go flying around the screen which the 4 year old thought was hilarious!) and it randomnly lands on a game suggestion. These are games that involve running around or doing bonkers things such as musical statues (head spin – ouch!), charades, follow the leader, musical chairs etc… all aided by the iPhone. We had a very funny 20 minutes racing around the house looking for the objects (toothbrush, pair of socks) in the Scavenger Hunt. The Bird Fish or Inbetween I skipped ’cause the idea of letting Ben hide my iPhone somewhere in the house was to scary to contemplate.
It’s a very neat, well designed little app that doesn’t cost a penny and encourages little moments of fun. Give it a go, you might just find it a lifesaver when you’ve got a spare hour to fill with energetic little people that just wanna have some fun.
