LaplandUK – review pics

We were invited to take the whole family to LaplandUK on Saturday. It’s a 3hr drive each way for us, but it looked so special, we thought it would be worth the drive + 4 children (well, okay, ‘I’ thought it would be, Mr Laura was dubious but not unwilling). The review is coming on the main site later today, but here’s some pics from the visit. Was it worth the money (£405)? Well. Tough question, and depends which of the six of us you ask… (see the full review HERE)

Hi, found your review after your post on Twitter. saw it on the dogs twitter page.. (Yes the dog’s!! Don’t ask it’s a long story lol)
Fantastic review, we have considered a visit to LaplandUK, but having an 11 year old and a 6 year old we did worry that if it was catastrophic then the Christmas maic would be forever sullied for ou;qerg older daughter. As she is on the brink of being a mis-believer it seems a lot of money (for the 4 of us) for what is potentialy the enjoyment of the 6 year old only.
Your review was refreshingly honest and detailed, I do think that it is maybe too expensive (don’t think for one second my 11 year old would be even remotely fooled by any of that) and whilst I’m sure that my 6 year old would love it in parts … it ultimatley doesn’t justify the price or the long trip there.
I think maybe we missed the boat on this one and should have done it a year or two ago when my eldest was slightly less cynical.
Fantastic review though, thank you, off to read some more now!!

    Sue.

Wow, thanks Sue – glad you made it all the way to the end of the review! And yes, with an 11yr old, I don’t personally think it’s worth it – I think mine would have been happier with legoland! Even a cynical 6yr old could be iffy, I guess, though mine’s nearly 7 and believed every second.

    Hi everyone

I just wanted to add my two penneth worth also. We went last year with our then almost 6 year old and my sister in law just went this year with her 3 year old and 6 year old. We all loved it.

I think this is definitely the age range that it is suited to, I was wavering about a 7 year old so older I think would be a big no no.

Personally we loved the bare, Nordic feel to it all, and my sister in law says that there were no Father Christmas issues at all. A bit more hands on in the workshop would be brilliant but it is the simple things that worked well; the ice skating, the lovely reindeers, the atmosphere story telling in the Sami tent.

It is great, a tad pricey, and yes, for the under 7s.

Hope you don’t mind my joining in the discussion…

    Jackie

Jackie my biggest issue wasn’t the bare Nordic feel – I loved that everywhere except the two workshops, which I did feel could easily have been made to feel more busy and warm without ruining the traditional nature of the decor. Even there i would have accepted it happily if everything else was smooth and perfect. That is, after all, a matter of personal taste and not ‘wrong’. But the wait for Father Christmas was ‘wrong’, the stand-off-ish Sami with the husky was ‘wrong’, the easily spotted fake elf shoes were ‘wrong’, the non-jolly (regardless of her weight!) Mother Christmas was ‘wrong’… and no storytelling in the Sami tent at all, so can’t say if that was good or not! Obviously lots of people are having a wonderful time there, and even with our own experience our youngest children were utterly thrilled. I just felt disappointed in a lot of the little details which could have been so easily avoided. And the lo-o-ong wait for FC was really unacceptable for us.

(and we LOVE people joining the discussion!)

Have just read your review and BIG SIGH.. I’m worried we will be disappointed.. I am a total big kid, I LOVE CHRISTMAS.. and probably if the truth be known do believe in fairies.. I turn 40 on Friday, tomorrw at 9am we leave to visit Lapland UK with 3 other familes, all with one child each aged 4.5yrs to 6yrs..
I hope its as good as I’d hoped it would be and better than I now expect after reading your post…
I will post a reply on my return but hope I feel the magic I so wanted this day out to be..

  6. Laura says:

Kerry fear not – at that age your children will all love it, and no doubt believe it is all totally real. Watch them, because that’s where the magic will be.
For you – I would go and enjoy – it IS fun. I think my expectations were supremely high – if I had expected less, I possibly would have been wowed more. And as Jackie above says, her experiences were very different.
But yes – please do come and tell us what you think.

oh my goodness, I feel for all these people who are leaving to arrive as the snow has cancelled all visits oh no…. We boooked for sunday 20th and sat 19 they are closed so goodness knows about sunday.
Thats all I can say to you is you want to see a magical real 100% santa and for your children to actually see him fly, then you need to book with canterbury travel the real lapland.
We been twice and words cannot descriibe I have travelled the whole carrebean and nothing beats the real lapland.
This one looks scarey after reading so many bad reviews.email me for any lapland storys or contacts as ive seen the best out there.

  8. Rachel Crapper says:

We have just been, and have to agree with the original lady’s comments. It was lovely, but just not worth the money. I cannot recommend it to others for this reason. Our original visit was cancelled due to the snow, and we re-booked and went on the 20th, and I think it was even busier than ever as I guess they were squeezing two days’ worth of “cancelled” people in. It cost us £350. If you have this cash spare, do it, otherwise don’t!!
