Just back from a completely fabulous short city break in Bordeaux, I was reminded again about the winder of The Dress. Summer Holiday Dresses in particular.
I rather fell out of love with dresses in my teens – skirts were okay at a need-to-dress-up push, but dresses? No way.
The trouble is I’m an odd shape – 6′ tall, but with ‘normal’ legs and a lo-o-oong back, which means a dress never ever sits right.
And then, somewhere in my 30’s I caught on to the maxi dress thing.
Oh, the joy. The revelation!
Dresses are amazing, right? You choose ONE item from your wardrobe, and that’s it. You’re done!
And a maxi dress means my height is simply not an issue – no way-too-short knee-length dresses, or waistlines up under my bust. Nope, they just… fit.
And once my love of the dress was rekindled, I discovered that there ARE places that make dresses for tall girls, and now dresses are simply my summer wardrobe staple.
It’s perfect – and particularly on holiday. Make wise choices when you’re buying, and they’re simple to wear, look good all day, take up little room in your suitcase, and they’re so much cooler in hot weather.
