The Bedroom Makeover is underway…

Finally, after a year of thinking about it (yeah, who am I kidding? I’ve been meaning to re-do our bedroom for 15 years. At least.), I’m actually in the middle of planning the bedroom makeover. It all started with the ‘9 things this Woman Craves From her Bedroom‘ post from last summer. I mean – I spent aa-a-ges planning and researching that post; it would be a crime if that all went to waste, right?

So we’re on the case.

We have carpets sorted (floorboards aren’t good enough, so we’re going for a pale grey Paper Moon carpet colour from Cormar.  Walls need to be stripped and skimmed, then plain soft white on three, and a nice paper on the fourth. Haven’t found a perfect sample yet; the joy of wallpaper shopping is to come :)

Bed shopping… we’re finally, after over 20 years of ‘cosy’ married life, going to squeeze a 5′ bed  into our little room; we’d rather lose 6″ walking space and have more sleeping room! And though the trend for a very low-set bed would definitely help to make the room feel bigger, we just need the under-bed storage space too much for either that or a divan to be an option.

Once we have the bed we can choose a mattress (probably picking mattresses online – mattress shopping in store makes me feel weird. All that lying down in your clothes in front of strangers. Just… odd).
The only thorny issue is the storage. Currently we have a small built-in cupboard, plus a sliding-doors wardrobe which was mine as a teenager. It was great then, but it was dismantled and re-installed when we got married. Then the mirror doors cracked and the hinges broke, and we have lived for longer than I’ve even noticed with door-less wardrobes.

We’re currently deciding whether to go for the cheaper option and do it ourselves from IKEA – I’m loving the new Pax range which would work really well, and be quick and simple to achieve.
Or do we splash out a little, and have a firm come and design us some bespoke solutions? It would mean waiting longer, but would it be worth it in the long run?

A 70's child, I’ve been married for a Very Long Time, and appear to have made four children, and collected one large and useless dog along the way. I work, I have four children, I have a dog… ergo, I do not do dusting or ironing. I began LittleStuff back in (gulp) 2004. I like huge mugs of tea. And Coffee. And Cake. And a steaming cone of crispy fresh fluffy chips, smothered in salt and vinegar. #healthyeater When I grow up I am going to be quietly graceful, organised and wear lipstick every day. In the meantime I *may* have a slight butterfly-brain issue.
