'The Animal Boogie' by Stella Blackstone

What WE Say...

‘The Animal Boogie’ is a Barefoot Books story with CD written by Stella Blackstone and illustrated by Debbie Harter. It is a bright, colourful, vibrant and engaging book about jungle animals and their actions. Every page of this book is packed with lots of little things to seek and find. Lots of unusual and exotic animals are hidden among the foliage. Our 2 year old reviewer made it his mission to find and name every single one of them. He was particularly entranced by the gorgeous peacock.

This book also features a child in a wheelchair which I was pleased to see. It prompted a positive conversation with my 5 year old about why someone would need a wheelchair and what life might be like for a person with different physical abilities.

When we first looked at the book, before listening to the CD, we made up our own tune to the words and we were delighted to discover, when we then played the CD that we were singing along to the same tune! The simple acoustic guitar on the CD is wonderful and works very well with the sincere enthusiasm of Fred Penner’s singing. The second, instrumental-only track is a nice touch too.
