MiniLineLights Zoo Nightlight - What WE Say...

Nightlights are a tricky business – they mustn’t be too bright, obviously, but then again you need to be able to see enough to not need to master the nappy-in-the-dark technique. When you go to your child in the night you want to be able to see why they’re screeching charmingly at 3a.m. without flipping on the light and blinding you both. But equally, when you kiss them goodnight and close the door, if they like a nightlight (and lets face it, you may intend for your child to love the dark, but some just don’t) then you don’t want the room light enough for them to read through the contents of the bookcase before the fall asleep.

Then your child grows a little – they still like the light at night, but the charmingly sweet bouncing fluffy bunnys are starting to become embarrassing when their mates come over.

This zoo light from MiniLine is, however, simply beautiful. When you get it out the box it doesn’t look all that much – just some animal shaped pieces of plastic to sit in some slots on a plastic base. But then it gets dark, you switch on the lamp and as if by magic it transforms into something strangely peaceful and lovely. The animals glow, the soft beams spread across the wall, and there’s just the right level of light to enable emergency trips without mishap.

On a practical note I like the fact that it can be wall mounted (which we have) or free standing (or both, you fix the base plate to the wall, not the actual lamp so you can move it as necessary) – and it always remains cool to the touch, thanks to the clever LED lights. It is also entirely made of Perspex, so even grabbing hands will simply pull flat plastic animals off – no fragile glass or spinning parts or even a bulb for them to break as they grab for the pretty thing (been there, done that, never to be repeated).

Joe is the only one of my children who has a nightlight – and at 8 I thought he would be far too old for this gorgeous ‘nursery’ light. And yet, the design is contemporary enough for him to love it still, and he demanded it remained when his room was redecorated – and his mates still exclaim spontaneously that they like his lamp when they come over.

Me? I think it’s soooo pretty. And know that when he finally outgrows it I can put it easily in Ella’s room, where she will love it just as much.
