Ickworth Hotel & Apartments

What THEY Say...

The Ickworth Hotel & Apartments are truly unique. Nestling in 1800 acres of National Trust Parkland on the Ickworth Estate and occupying the East Wing of the house which was formerly the Hervey family home, it never fails to make a big impression on visitors. Ickworth is a successful blend of contemporary style with the traditions of a great country house to benefit all the family. The lavish décor does not hark back to days long gone, but has been given a contemporary feel to the ground floor and some bedrooms which maintain respect for traditions of this great house.

The hotel itself has 27 bedrooms and you can choose to “Lord it Up” in the Marquis’s bed chamber or snuggle up in the Butler’s cosy retreat. For those looking for a little more privacy and space, The 11 one and two bedroom apartments in the Dower House represent a fantastic choice. Just a short walk or cycle from the main hotel and sitting in their own four acre gardens, the apartments are very popular with families and for exclusive use events. The Butlers Lodge, in the stable yard just opposite the hotel entrance is a private three bedroom retreat with it’s own walled garden.

Our aim is to make your stay as relaxing as possible for all family members. Despite our grand setting and fantastic interiors, there is no stuffiness, this really is home from home…just like a wealthy relative inviting you all to their country pile for a few days!

What WE Say...

Littlestuff were invited to attend a ‘Come and See’ day with lunch at the Ickworth Hotel in Bury St Edmunds which also tied in with a pampering spa session using Mama Mio skincare products at the hotel.

We sent our intrepid, 30-weeks-pregnant reviewer, Lisa, along and here are her thoughts on the Ickworth Hotel. You can find her review on the Mama Mio spa treatments here.

===========================================================

As soon as you drive up to Ickworth House you can tell it is a special place. The hotel is set in 1800 acres of National Trust land which makes you feel as if you are in the heart of the countryside and really getting away from the hustle and bustle. Ickworth promotes itself as a ‘luxury family hotel’ and the children’s wellies at the entrance of the hotel, for guests to borrow, definitely make the right impression. Rooms are well equipped with whatever you and you children may need, including cots, sterilisers and fridges etc... (which can be requested at the time of booking). Buggies can also be borrowed and there are excellent facilities to keep children of all ages entertained, including a lovely heated indoor swimming pool which is nice and warm, perfect if you have small children. Over fives can go horseriding and there are also bikes for all ages to hire in order to explore the vast grounds on.

If, after you have spent a happy day with the children, you would like some grown-up time, there is a well equipped creche which is included in the price of the hotel. This is an excellent facility which gives you the chance to have a spa treatment, or to just relax in one of the beautiful drawing rooms.

There is a family restaurant, which thankfully, is not like a family restaurant you would find on the high street, there are no gimmicks and bright colours just well prepared fresh food. Children are well catered for and are made to feel very welcome, yet it is set in a lovely area which makes it a special place for everyone to eat. In the evening there is a stylish but cosy adult only restaurant where you can have a more sophisticated and intimate meal. A worry free evening is made possible by the availability of a baby listening service, (which is available in every room), or the Hotel can provide a baby-sitter (which will need to be pre booked).

There are a variety of rooms to chose from, a standard double to a suite or apartment. The prices on the rooms are high but if you want a real luxury break away with some very well thought out touches in a truly family friendly hotel, I would definitely consider the beautiful Ickworth Hotel.
