BUT.
When you’re the one trying to get your 2 year old to move on from the nappy stage (and lets face it, it’s a double edged sword – nappies may be expensive, but are convenient and oh-so-easy for us busy parents) The Potty is a Very Big Deal.
Ella’s my fourth child, so I’m a bit of an old hand at this potty training malarkey – and consequently a bit fussy about the potty.

When BabiesRUs offered this potty, claiming it be really well designed, I looked at the picture and admit to being dubious. Singularly uninspiring isn’t it? But then – why do you need to be inspired by a potty? A toilet isn’t exactly a beautiful feature of your home, is it? So I accepted the challenge and waited for Ella to let me know she was ready to begin.

Whilst we were waiting for some bladder control the first element of the potty became apparent. It has a few functions, and the top of this is the fact that with the lid closed it’s a handy step. Nice wide non-slip surface, sturdy and reliable rubber feet; already it’s place in the house is assured.

Then we started the training and I discovered the second neat feature – when she uses it, the ‘seat’ lifts up, just like a toilet seat, and a handy canister has caught the much-applauded results. And as a mother of boys I particularly like the fact that its not simply a round ‘bucket’ underneath – it is cleverly shaped to catch the pointing-forward efforts of small boys too.

The seat is wide and comfortable, and not too low, and really does everything I would ask of it. To top it off, the seat actually lifts off and fits onto a normal toilet seat to assist your toddler as they move on to a grown up toilet. And of course the base can then live in the bathroom as the necessary step to reach it.

So – three functions, for which it has been designed perfectly – no fuss, no frills and a great price (£17).
