BabyRoyale Bamboo Baby Blanket Review

Matilda working VERY hard at her reviewing duties...

As you may have seen Matilda arrived on the 15th April so we were able to begin real roper testing of the BabyRoyale Bamboo Baby Blanket (could there be any more B’s in a product name?). A baby blanket isn’t the most sophisticated of items but it does need to perform a few basic tasks; it should be warm (but not to the extent that the baby overheats), it needs to be gentle on the baby’s skin and lastly it needs to withstand regular washing because less face it at a minimum it’s going to get sick on it.
This blanket is made with organic cotton and produced in the UK, 2 things which I value highly when buying things. Great to support British companies whenever possible and in my mind organic production makes sense. So already a positive impression of the product before we’ve even taken it out of the box and as a result there were high expectations from us.
In use we weren’t disappointed, we used the blanket at night in the moses basket and also during the day in the push chair etc. Matilda slept perfectly when wrapped in this blanket which has to be a good sign and the size was sufficient to swaddle her without lots of excess. It is wonderfully soft -  and perfect if you don’t want to use a traditional wool blanket that might irritate some baby’s skin. Oh, and it’s available in white, pink or blue depending on what flavour baby you are having.
My only slight reservation is that following 3 or 4 washes it has started to come apart slightly on one side. We did follow the washing instructions on the label and didn’t use a tumble dryer so not sure what has caused this as the quality does seem good. However this hasn’t stopped us using it so that must say something about the product.
But would I actually go out and buy one? Maybe. At £34.99 I’d like to be sure on the ability for it to be washed regularly and that the blanket will last long term so that it can be used for any future babies. But aside from this it gets top marks both from us and Matilda.

BabyRoyale Bamboo Baby Blanket is available from Hello Baby Direct for £34.99

oooooh, look – organic sleeping bags reduced by the Quick Brown Fox

We reviewed these back in the autumn (you can read what Claire thought of them here), and they are truly something special. And now… Quick Brown Fox of Dulwich have reduced them – £10 off, making them just £35. Only up to 18mths, the bigger sizes have already been snaffled up by faster Mummas than you… but if you happen to be the proud owner of a less-than-18mth-old, may I suggest you hit that picture quickety-quick and go snaffle one up yourself? They also make really rather brilliant gifts for new parents too.

The Rather Lush Greenchild Baby Sleeping Bag

That most delicious picture over there is courtesy of Sonia at Sonia Thorpe Photography, who also happily agreed to try out the Greenchild Organic Sleeping Bag on the rather edible Maxwell you can see cooing peacefully. Here’s what Sonia thinks:

We have been using the Greenchild organic sleeping bag for a couple of months now and we love it!

I had never used a sleeping bag with Maxwell before as he was so tiny, and when we got offered the chance to review this we jumped at the chance. Maxwell is brilliant at kicking his blankets off and moving himself around his cot so having him in a sleeping bag really is a necessity now the nights are cooler!

I have no fear at all about him being cold in this – we have actually been given another 2.5 tog sleeping bag. but to me it feels cold and thin and I would much rather have him in the greenchild one which is soft, padded and snug. Maxwell sleeps through the night in it, so I am sure he feels that way too :)

Easy to wash (and believe me it has been washed and washed!), and unexpectedly the colour is perfect still. I thought with it being so very red it would run and fade, but it hasn’t at all.

I do rather wish I could just stick it in the tumble dryer, but then I’m a bit lazy like that (really, everything has to go in the tumble dryer, yes?). I also love the fact it opens from the bottom, making those night nappy changes really easy.

I would very highly recommend this baby sleeping bag (and I fully intend to buy more of the same as gifts too!).

Quick Brown Fox of Dulwich – EXCLUSIVE 15% off!

Have you popped your little nose around the door of Quick Brown Fox of Dulwich’s shop? Have you? Well, now’s the time to go see why we love her (cos we do. But don’t tell her we said that).

‘Babies bedding with a touch of mischief’ – how can you resist? I’d add a dash of style and a good shake of quality to the mix too – not a mass-produced cot set in sight.

Just sweet, quirky classic bedding with a touch of nostalgia in the air (along with a  sprinkling of nursery extras just to make your heart skip  a little at the pretty). Me, I’m after a set of the London Toile childrens bedding. Even the pictures make me want to stroke it a little (d’you think the Fox has seen my batting eyelashes yet?). And I’m finding it very VERY hard to resist this Twitter for little girls. But whether you’re after a swaddle or a cowboy pillow do be sure to stop by and say hello. And don’t forget your 15% off all those luscious things that just fall into your basket when you’re not looking…

The Ergo Pouch – what d’you mean you’ve never heard of it?

My little girl is coming up to a year old and has always slept beautifully in her Stokke Sleepi, we’re lucky. But as the weather has began to turn a little of late, it was time to get her back in to her sleeping bag as we had a few nights where she was disturbed when she kicked her covers off. So out came out quilted ErgoPouch and I can, hand on heart, say I  have nothing but praise it.

Not only does it feel and look totally luxurious, but it’s perfectly practical in every way. It’s a very good looking sleeping bag, not at all garish, and will fit in to every style of nursery decor.

But there’s a few little details which make this type of sleeping bag a little bit better than the rest. Firstly, and something I didn’t really notice initially – it has special stretch inserts in the shoulders and sides, so my wiggly little girl doesn’t get frustrated; she can move freely, and therefore doesn’t wake up all tangled. It also has a two way zipper for easy closure when putting wriggly baby to bed (also easy access to midnight nappy!).

So we totally love it from a we-use-it-every-night point of view …. but we’re not finished yet.
Oh no.

There’s other stuff you need to know: It’s 100% pure organic cotton, so naturally breathable with superior water absorption capabilities. There are no pesticides or chemicals used, it’s hypo-allergenic and it’s anti-static and anti-fungal. PLUS (and you’ll like this), I have chucked mine in the washing machine at 40oc and it’s come out perfect. Although the washing instruction is ‘cool gentle wash & warm dry’.

So would I recommend.

Yes.

Absolutely.

When my daughter grows out of hers we will be buying the next size up.

The most delicious Baby Gifts

Natures Purest is a fab site stuffed full of sweet and lovey things – made all the more so by the fact that every single on of them is made from 100% natural and pure cotton. No dyes. No bleach. No chemical pesticides. No heavy metals. No formaldehyde. No chlorinated phenoles. No chloro-organic carriers. No biologically active finished. Just 100% Natural and Pure.

Really – would you want to put much else next to your baby’s skin?

And it’s not just about sweet (adorably so) toys – oh no, you can get your cot sheets and blankets, beautiful baby clothes, and some incredibly stylish knits too.
So when a gift box landed on the doorstep I opened the (very lovely) wrapping with high anticipation, expecting something a little special.
Well – it probably was, but I couldn’t tell immediately as it was whisked out of my hands by an excited 3 yr old, with a squeal of ‘OH! It’s a Beautiful Rabbit! Thank you Mummy!”
Beautiful Rabbit has been hanging around for a while now, and I have to admit that she holds a special little corner of fondness in me. She’s quite a plain little Rabbit, in an old-fashioned cloth style that I remember from my old childhood, with arms and legs sticking straight out, and a face simply embroidered on. But that’s half the charm. You notice her amongst the other, more contemporary looking toys – and when you pick her up… she’s just so very soft and pretty!
The first thing you notice is the incredible softness of both the blanket and the rabbit – easily the nicest thing to warm a newborn, this would make a perfect Birth gift. But Beautiful rabbit also has a little knitted dress and dancing shoes tied up with ribbon. Her ears are lined with the softest shiniest satin (perfect for small fingers to rub when they’re tired), and her little sleeping face is just darling.
So. No. We don’t like Beautiful Rabbit – not Very Much At All. We love her. Just a bit. ;)
The blanket that she came with is a good size for a crib/baby car seat, and will I’m sure become the preferred comforter as the baby grows.
Gorgeous. I’d quite like a grown up sized version please.

One potato, two potato, three potato… Family Gardening.

The next thing Lakeland suggested we might like to try was growing our own potatoes in their Patio Potato Planter Trio. The three bags arrived, and all seemed very simple, so using the shopping skills of previously-mentioned Grown up (what would we do without Gangy, eh?) we found ourselves equipped with a sunny afternoon, two bags of seed poatoes, compost, a watering can and four able willing assistants…

Not too tricky - soil, potatoes, then layer. What can go wrong?

Things start off all very civilised...

Then stated getting a le-e-e-tle bit out of hand. SOME soil went in the bags, honest.

One month later - exciting discovery. We have lift off!

We planted just the two bags to start with, and reserved the third which we have just planted up with ‘lates’.  It’s all very exciting though. Our very own potatoes!

Spotted! Most amazingly exotically enticing doll

ooooh! Look! Go on, would you just LOOK!

Now, I know that The Pink One does love her pink things. Just a bit.

Oh my, yes, she does.

But almost as much she loves COLOUR. When she sees a new pot of crayons her eyes widen and she does a little gasp of glee that gets me every time. It’s the colour. So you can imagine her reaction when she spotted the most delicious Jasmine Doll on my screen today. She quite literally stroked it. And then got very cross wanting to know where HER orange doll was.

Cornrow braids with different coloured knots, a real necklace and the all-important (I”m learning) removable dress, pinafore, bloomers and boots.  She is made from 100% hand woven cotton, the dresses are made with the finer mercerised cotton, all carefully hand dyed with eco-friendly, safe dyes, and finally stuffed with kapok.

Like all of So Indigo‘s products, she is made from hand using sustainable, traditional methods.

Oh and there’s the small matter of just how lovely she is, yes? Go on, take another look and tell me you’re not smiling.

Yes, of course.

But what if we said this was entirely natural too?

Entirely natural, and entirely fantastic at what it does?

And not only natural, but handmade?

Handmade in Wales?

Handmade to be extra concentrated, so you need less?

Handmade in Wales using fairly traded, ethically sourced sustainable ingredients?

Palm Free, Cruelty Free and proudly Vegan?

Well, you’d bite my soft and sweet-smelling hand off, wouldn’t you?

Of course you would.

Did I mention the bottles are pretty too?

Spotted! For the Dads – The Real Shaving Co.

I was doing the weekly on-line shopping when Dearest Husband piped up, “I need some face cream please.” – “Eh?!” I intelligently responded. Turns out that for months, the Winter months especially, he’s been dipping, daily, into my very special, too good for him, facial moisturiser to keep his dry skin at bay. No wonder I’ve been getting through the stuff so quickly!! Argh!

So, a few browsing clicks down the virtual aisles of the on-line supermarket and I discovered The Real Shaving Co‘s stuff. Really, really good it is too. What is most impressive is the reasonable price for a product that has no nasties (no parabens, SLS, SLES or alcohol). I’ve treated Dearest Husband to the anti-ageing (ha!) moisturiser and the smell  is gorgeous.

Now, if he can behave himself and leave my own little pots of gorgeous goop alone, I might treat him to a few more of their products…

The Real Shaving Co. products can be found in many supermarkets and they also have an on-line shop.

Amalia is the first of our reviewers to come back with her opinion of the new Stage 1 savoury meals from Organix. We have a few families reviewing these right now – but the new reviewers have some compeition for the funniest; Amalia’s Mama and Papi turned out to be pretty good at this whole reviewing thing.

The reviews will go live on LittleStuff later this week, but we couldn’t resist showing you Amalia being a little unlady-like in her haste to snaffle down the Sweet Potato, Pear and Pea meal!
