5 of the Coolest Lamps for a Teenager’s Bedroom

Redecorating your teen’s bedroom slowly becomes a priority as they move from 12 to 14. We know – we’ve just re-done our 15yr old’s. It wasn’t that long ago that he was thrilled at a floor-to-ceiling Marvel Avengers mural. Now? Not so much.
And you know how it is – while you’re decorating, you always have an eye to the fact that they’re going to change tastes again pretty quickly in the next few years. So to avoid another total redecoration in two years time it’s often a really good idea to keep the basics neutral, and then accessorise with splashes of stuff they love. They’re much easier to switch out when they grow tired of the scheme their younger teen self thought was cool.
Lamps for a Teenager’s Bedroom are a simple and yet oh-so-effective way to add warmth and character (as well as light!) to their room – we’ve been hunting about ourselves, and have found some top picks for you…

NASA Rocket Lava Lamp

  • This officially NASA licensed rocket-shaped lava lamp is the perfect lighting option for a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Retro styling for all the wannabe astronauts (or cosmonauts depending on where you’re from) out there, this helps brings a touch of the galaxy into your home.

Measuring 50cm tall (not a life-size rocket) and filled with beautiful blue water and red bubbling lava, this space-age lighting is an amazing gift for those who choose to look to the stars.

The NASA Rocket Lava Lamp from Firebox is just under £35

Neon Wall Lamp for a Teenager’s Bedroom

Lamps for a Teenager's Bedroom neon wall light

I’ve never yet met a teen who doesn’t love a neon wall sign. My own teens have a variety in their rooms – and the 21yr old still lights up his ‘love to skate’ neon sign which we bought him as an achingly cool 11yr old.

And this one is a step above a neon-lit skateboarder, right? It’s absolutely gorgeous.

And fear not – this one’s NOT made of glass and super-hot; it’s actually crafted from neon flex, with 256 white LEDs within, so it’s super safe and remains cool to the touch.

The ‘Oh yeah!’ neon wall lamp is £50 from Lights4fun

Starry Bell Jar Lamp

Oh.

So SO pretty.

A solid wooden base, and a classic glass bell jar dome cover the mass of fairy lights within.
the lights are LED’s, so use a tiny fraction of energy, and never get hot – and they’re mains-powered too. What a beautiful, dramatic bedside lamp. I want one.

Best of all, the vintage Starry Bell Jar lamp is UNDER £18 on Amazon!

Wooden Book Lamps for a Teenager’s Bedroom

Okay, never mind the teen, *I* want this lamp. Made from walnut and parchment, it’s absolutely beautiful.
*want*
Leave it open like a book, lay it flat for an uplighter, or open it into a 360º standing lamp. It looks good ALL the ways!
And not only all of that, but it’s remote-controlled too, with adjustable brightness as well as a countless colour array.
Come on, how could you not want one of these??

The Wooden Book Lamp starts at £16 on Amazon (me, I’m splashing out the extra £3 on the large version)

Tony Desk Lamp

My teens LOVE this lamp – I think I’m rubbing off on them. It’s no secret I’m a HUGE vintage-look adjustable desk lamp fan – and this little baby is simply perfect. And so sleek and gorgeous in his retro fineness that my teenagers have all added him to their own wishlists.
It’s not huge (just over a foot high), so it’s perfect for small bedroom desks, and it comes in three shades – grey, white and this fabulous lichen which wins every time for me.

Best of all? In a shake up to the usual high price tag for this kind of lamp, he’s just £20!

The Tony Desk Lamp is £20 in John Lewis

A 70's child, I’ve been married for a Very Long Time, and appear to have made four children, and collected one large and useless dog along the way. I work, I have four children, I have a dog… ergo, I do not do dusting or ironing. I began LittleStuff back in (gulp) 2004. I like huge mugs of tea. And Coffee. And Cake. And a steaming cone of crispy fresh fluffy chips, smothered in salt and vinegar. #healthyeater When I grow up I am going to be quietly graceful, organised and wear lipstick every day. In the meantime I *may* have a slight butterfly-brain issue.
