Jeans for your man-sized boy teenager.

I thought they were tricky to find clothes for when they were six, and demanded red tractor t-shirts, soft-pyjamas-with-buttons-on-please and absolutely no yellow.
But these boys of mine haven’t got any easier as they’ve got older.
The trouble is, teenagers just stop being catered for specifically – around the age of 13 they suddenly disappear from the kids clothing sections; but adult clothing doesn’t really fit.
Then you get through the next couple of years, and all of a sudden you’re trying to find jeans that will fit your 6′ 15yr old who’s still growing at a rate of knots, hasn’t yet grown out of the ridiculous 5yr old string-bean build and yet is no less demanding in the fashion stakes.

Though to be fair there are less requests for tractors these days, thank goodness.

To be fair, I make it sound like a chore, but it’s a bit simple in all honesty. I’m a 6′ tall woman, and I learned long ago that few shops make clothes that actually fit me, so when you find one, you stick to it. I’ve been shopping in Long Tall Sally for years (but hooray hoorah hooroo loads of new high street stores have started stocking ‘taller’ ranges)…

For my 16yr old (his older brother is 18, and thankfully no longer my responsibility to clothe, but just 6mths ago he was my 6’3″ 17yr old. TOTAL nightmare.) I simply go straight to Jacamo’s jeans department and plug in their inside leg measurement…
(NB – when measuring said inside leg measurement, it’s advisable to hand them the top of the tape measure and ask them to hold it in place under their testicles. They will not appreciate their mother doing this, and to be frank I didn’t fancy it any more than they did…)

So how about these – Union Blue’s Slim Fit, 33in inside leg with the essential narrow waist. They fit well on his long-but-narrow frame, the black looks great, and best of all they’re currently reduced to £20 a pair. Perfect seeing as he’ll be needing new ones in a longer length by Christmas!

These are the jeans-of-choice for my boys though; they both love a button fly, this dark blue wash is, in their humble teen opinion, de rigueur for denim, and the soft stretchy denim seems to eb a perfect comfort choice for both gaming-chair lounging and long boarding. They’re the Gonzo Ferreira Jeans from Bellfield, and the tapered fit seems to keep my boys happy.

The almost-15y old on the other hand? Well he refuses to wear jeans. No denim has graced his increasingly-long limbs since he was about 7, actually. Just the thought of wearing it seems to put his teeth on edge! But he does love a good pair of cords in the colder months (attaboy. He’s his mother’s child – I flippin’ LOVE a good pair of cords!), and he’s a big fan of these stretch cord jeans from Williams & Brown. They do everything that a pair of jeans will do, but you’ll feel like your legs are in a soft warm hug at the same time. Perfect.

Save it for later!

A 70's child, I’ve been married for a Very Long Time, and appear to have made four children, and collected one large and useless dog along the way. I work, I have four children, I have a dog… ergo, I do not do dusting or ironing. I began LittleStuff back in (gulp) 2004. I like huge mugs of tea. And Coffee. And Cake. And a steaming cone of crispy fresh fluffy chips, smothered in salt and vinegar. #healthyeater When I grow up I am going to be quietly graceful, organised and wear lipstick every day. In the meantime I *may* have a slight butterfly-brain issue.
