Our Top 5 Summer Kaftans – perfect cover ups for the beach!

We’re headed off on our first summery break next week – two weeks with a pool in the Dordogne. Being the end of May, we’re not expecting a glorious heatwave, but I’m well aware that the temperatures are likely to get high on the good days, so we’re going prepared!
Naturally that means a spot of holiday shopping! Thanks to my ‘packing light’ policy we’re mostly covered; new goggles & swimming trunks for the boys plus a couple of sundresses for the 10yr old and we’re just about there. Except for a necessary replacement for myself – I get to indulge my love of summer kaftans.
Just essential holiday wear, aren’t they? On holiday we tend not to go far – and we spend most of the day in our swimwear – but I do love to have a cover up to hand for lunch, and for the lovely long evenings (and quick emergency dashes for bread, cheese and wine, obvs!).
Sadly my beloved cover up from the last couple of years (a deliciously oversized fine white linen one from Monsoon) died a death on me at the end of last summer – and so I’m on the hunt again!
*claps hands in glee*

I’ve done the hunting for you – and here’s my top picks for this year’s summer kaftans cover up offerings…

Rosanna Summer Poncho – Joules

Love love LOVE this floaty bold poncho tunic from Joules. Like all the best tunics, this will work fabulously as a cover up over your swimming costume, but is just as good with shorts and a vest for strolling around the old town.
And just LOOK at those colours? It’ll shout “LET’S GO ON HOLIDAY!” at you every time you open your wardrobe, won’t it?
The Rosanna Summer Poncho is currently REDUCED to under £13. Go go go!

The White Siesta Cover up – Next

white cover up beach kaftan

Oh-so-easy to wear – and perfectly cool. It’s hand wash only, being 100% viscose, but a quick rinse and waft in the fresh air for 30minutes is all you’ll need.
The White Kaftan cover up is from Next, comes in sizes 8 to 22 and can be yours for £32.

Beaded V-Neck Kaftan – John Lewis

Keeping it elegantly simple now with this red 100% viscose John Lewis & Partners Guipure Lace Square Kaftan. Perfect coverage for the beach, with a delicate lace and tassel detail at the cuffs for a beautiful artisan finish.

A traditional loose fitting shape, but with practical elbow length sleeves.

The V-neck Kaftan is available from John Lewis, and is REDUCED from £39 to under £20!

Xanthe Jersey Kaftan – Boden

Typical Boden, keeping it cool and with this stylishly simple linen kaftan. Frankly I love it. Gorgeously 70’s style intricate trim around the neckline keeps things feminine, and the three-quarter-length, slightly fluted sleeves provide ample cover.
The Evangeline Linen Tunic comes in sizes 6-20, and is currently reduced from £75 down to just £30!! (and for those who aren’t so fond of the yellow, it comes in SEVEN fabric choices – more than enough for anyone!)

Or maybe all you want is a fine white shirt as a beach cover up – if so, Dorothy Perkins has it covered with this 100% cotton long length, Kaftan shirt with brown wooden buttons and roll fastened sleeves (sizes 8-22).
Sometimes you just want to keep it simple.
Plus this White Beach Shirt is a total bargain at just £20!

Simple and easy – with that fun tassel edging. Honestly I remember wearing this exact top back in 1986. I *might* have stolen it from my older (cooler) sister when she wasn’t looking.
light and crease-free for your holiday packing as it’s 100% viscose, AND the Curve tassel fringed beach kaftan is on ASOS reduced to just £14! Go go go!

Pin it for later!

I've done the hunting for you - and here's my top picks for this year's summer kaftans cover up offerings... yes, once again I get to indulge my love of summer kaftans.
Just essential holiday wear, aren't they? On holiday we tend not to go far - and we spend most of the day in our swimwear - but I do love to have a cover up to hand for lunch, and for the lovely long evenings (and quick emergency dashes for bread, cheese and wine, obvs!).

A 70's child, I’ve been married for a Very Long Time, and appear to have made four children, and collected one large and useless dog along the way. I work, I have four children, I have a dog… ergo, I do not do dusting or ironing. I began LittleStuff back in (gulp) 2004. I like huge mugs of tea. And Coffee. And Cake. And a steaming cone of crispy fresh fluffy chips, smothered in salt and vinegar. #healthyeater When I grow up I am going to be quietly graceful, organised and wear lipstick every day. In the meantime I *may* have a slight butterfly-brain issue.
