Our Top 5 Summer Kaftans – perfect cover ups for the beach!

We’re headed off on our first summery break next week – two weeks with a pool in the Dordogne. Being the end of May, we’re not expecting a glorious heatwave, but I’m well aware that the temperatures are likely to get high on the good days, so we’re going prepared!
Naturally that means a spot of holiday shopping! Thanks to my ‘packing light’ policy we’re mostly covered; new goggles & swimming trunks for the boys plus a couple of sundresses for the 10yr old and we’re just about there. Except for a necessary replacement for myself – I get to indulge my love of summer kaftans.
Just essential holiday wear, aren’t they? On holiday we tend not to go far – and we spend most of the day in our swimwear – but I do love to have a cover up to hand for lunch, and for the lovely long evenings (and quick emergency dashes for bread, cheese and wine, obvs!).
Sadly my beloved cover up from the last couple of years (a deliciously oversized fine white linen one from Monsoon) died a death on me at the end of last summer – and so I’m on the hunt again!
*claps hands in glee*

I’ve done the hunting for you – and here’s my top five picks for this year’s summer kaftans cover up offerings…

The Floral Print Tunic Top – MandM Direct

This light 100% cotton tunic top from OnFire would do the job perfectly for a casual cover up. It looks great here with jeans (though I’m betting that sheer cotton would need a vest top or cami underneath in real life!), but it’s a soft casual option for by the pool or on the beach – and I love those soft blue tones.
It comes in two sizes – 10-14 or 16-20, and best of all, the floral print tunic top is a snip at under £20.

Margaux Summer Poncho – Joules

Love love LOVE this floaty bold poncho tunic from Joules (and of course, whenever you shop with Joules don’t forget to check https://www.myfavouritevouchercodes.co.uk/joules.com for the latest discount codes and offers). Like all the best tunics, this will work fabulously as a cover up over your swimming costume, but is just as good with shorts and a vest for strolling around the old town.
And just LOOK at those colours? It’ll shout “LET’S GO ON HOLIDAY!” at you every time you open your wardrobe, won’t it?
The Margeaux Pool Blue Beau Bloom summer poncho is just under £35

The Navy/White Strip Cover up – Next

Oh-so-easy to wear – but strikingly funky with those 80’s-esque stripes, isn’t it? 100% jersey cotton, with an elasticated waist for a fitted silhouette (for those who aren’t fond of the relaxed ‘full and flowing’ traditional kaftan look).
The Navy/White stripe cover up (though there’s a lot of green in there to me!) is from Next, comes in sizes S to XL and can be yours for £26.

Beaded V-Neck Kaftan – John Lewis

Keeping it elegantly simple now with this black 100% viscose kaftan from John Lewis. Perfect coverage for the beach, with a delicate bead detail along the v-neckline and cuffs for a beautiful artisan finish.

A traditional loose fitting shape, but with practical elbow length sleeves, and that elasticated waist with neat drawcord to keep a fitted shape.

The Beaded V-neck Kaftan is available in sizes S-L from John Lewis for £45.

Xanthe Jersey Kaftan – Boden

Typical Boden, keeping it cool and with this stylish pure white kaftan. Frankly I love it. Gorgeously 70’s style intricate trim down the front and around the neckline keeps things feminine, and the three-quarter-length, slightly fluted sleeves provide ample cover.
The Xanthe Jersey Kaftan comes in sizes 6-20, and can be yours for £50 (and for those of a more colourful taste, it also comes in a shocking fuchsia pink!)

Pin it for later!

Top Summer Kaftans for 2017

Author: Laura

A 70’s child, I’ve been married for a Very Long Time, and appear to have made four children, and collected one large and useless dog along the way.
I work, I have four children, I have a dog… ergo, I do not do dusting or ironing.
I began LittleStuff back in (gulp) 2004.
I like huge mugs of tea. And Coffee. And Cake. And a steaming cone of crispy fresh fluffy chips, smothered in salt and vinegar. #healthyeater
When I grow up I am going to be quietly graceful, organised and wear lipstick every day. In the meantime I *may* have a slight butterfly-brain issue.
