The Way Back Home – Oliver Jeffers

Once there as a boy, and one day, he found an aeroplane in his cupboard…

He didn’t remember leaving it in there, but he thought he’d take it out for a go right away. At first, all went well and the plane flew higher and higher and higher until… suddenly, with a splutter, it ran out of petrol. The boy was stuck on the moon… and he was not alone…

The Way Back Home” is a fantastic little story – just as you’d expect from Oliver Jeffers it’s gentle, sweet, and beautifully drawn out. I find kids really respond to Oliver Jeffers, instinctively grasping all the things the words are NOT saying (although to be fair I’ve never really grasped the sense in Stuck, despite the fact i’ve read it approximately 1,649 times…).
The boy’s unexpected guest is perfect, and the ending suitably warm and happy.

Perfect, thank you again Mr Jeffers.

A 70's child, I’ve been married for a Very Long Time, and appear to have made four children, and collected one large and useless dog along the way. I work, I have four children, I have a dog… ergo, I do not do dusting or ironing. I began LittleStuff back in (gulp) 2004. I like huge mugs of tea. And Coffee. And Cake. And a steaming cone of crispy fresh fluffy chips, smothered in salt and vinegar. #healthyeater When I grow up I am going to be quietly graceful, organised and wear lipstick every day. In the meantime I *may* have a slight butterfly-brain issue.
