We’re all going on a…
…summer-holiday-courtesy-of-KeyCamp doesn’t have quite the Cliff ring to it does it?
But we are, next week, as the lovely people at KeyCamp have offered us a fine getaway.
Now before we hear the bellows of disapproval at us going in term time, let me explain a thing or two… Almost exactly one year ago, my been-sick-for-months 10 year old was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (or M.E. to some). He has had a loo-o-ng, slow fight back to health, and is now, finally, almost back to normal. Almost – but not quite.
Next week, his classmates attend their much-anticipated week-long residential activity course. Better No.1 may be, but up to a week of abseiling, kayaking, rock climbing and midnight-feasting he is not.
And neither are we willing to plop him into a Year 5 class for the week and have him feel yet further isolated and ‘different’.
On top of his own health, we also have the fact that his two younger brothers have had 18mths of “no, we can’t go swimming/to soft play/to the cinema/anywhere at all… No.1 is not well enough”. And not once have they complained, moaned, or muttered about fairness. They’ve simply looked after him, goaded him, poked him a bit… and been the best medicine of all.
So into our laps came the offer of a KeyCamp break. Serendipity? Clearly, as is our family motto, we grabbed the chance with both hands.
And THAT is why we’re off on our oh-so-Jolly Olli-days, in term time.
So ner.
